In a large four-façade house of over 500 m² in Laeken, we replaced a 20-year-old, highly energy-hungry boiler with a Buderus system that is both powerful and efficient. The result: gas consumption cut by around 30%.
The context
The house — four façades, over 500 m² to heat — required a truly powerful boiler. The old installation, more than 20 years old, consumed an enormous amount. The sanitary pipes, made of heavily rusted galvanised steel, also delivered poor-quality water. The project was carried out in Laeken (Brussels).
The installed solution
- ✅ Buderus Logano plus KB192i.2-50 gas condensing boiler (50 kW): the power needed to comfortably heat over 500 m².
- ✅ Atlantic Explorer V5 thermodynamic water heater (270 L, connected): domestic hot water produced efficiently.
- ✅ Replacement of the sanitary pipes from rusted galvanised steel to new insulated Alpex piping: much better water quality.
- ✅ SoluCalc water softener (CO₂-based, salt-free): to protect the installation from limescale.
- ✅ MX400 connectivity module: control the boiler and track consumption via the My Buderus app.

The result: gas consumption cut by about 30%
By replacing this old boiler with the KB192i.2-50, gas consumption dropped by around 30%. Three things explain it:
- ✅ Condensation: unlike the old non-condensing boiler, the KB192i.2 recovers the heat from its flue gases by condensing the water vapour, pushing efficiency well above 90%.
- ✅ Correct sizing: like many old installations, the previous boiler was oversized (70 kW) — we replaced it with a right-sized 50 kW unit.
- ✅ 1-to-10 modulation: this 50 kW boiler can drop to around 5 kW when demand is low, adapting continuously to the home's real needs. The old boiler had only two stages — 35 kW or 70 kW (full power), with nothing in between.
Together, these three factors significantly cut annual consumption.
The benefits for the customer
- ✅ Sharply reduced gas bill (≈ −30% vs the old boiler).
- ✅ Power matched to a large home of over 500 m².
- ✅ Efficient hot water thanks to the thermodynamic water heater.
- ✅ Better water quality: new copper pipes + SoluCalc anti-limescale.
- ✅ Remote control and consumption tracking via My Buderus.
Ecowatt also handles all your plumbing
Heating is only part of the job. Here, the home's old sanitary network was in heavily rusted galvanised steel — several dozen metres of it — which degraded both water quality and flow. We replaced all of it with new insulated Alpex piping: cleaner water, better flow, and no heat loss or condensation along the runs. From bathrooms and complete sanitary installations to leak detection, Ecowatt carries out every plumbing job alongside your heating.

A SoluCalc to protect the new installation
To keep limescale from attacking the brand-new boiler, water heater and pipework, we fitted a SoluCalc CO₂ water softener. Unlike a salt softener, it uses food-grade CO₂ — so the water stays 100% drinkable at every tap, with no salt to carry and no water wasted down the drain. The ideal finishing touch to make a fresh installation last.

Subsidies: up to €1,200
In Flanders, the thermodynamic water heater we installed qualifies for a subsidy of up to €1,200, depending on your region and income. Combined with the energy savings, the investment quickly pays off.
