In Zemst (Hofstade), we installed a Buderus air-to-water heat pump with a nice challenge: getting the outdoor unit onto the roof. A complete, carefully executed installation, designed for optimal operation.
The context
The customer was switching to an air-to-water heat pump for renewable, efficient heating. The particularity of the project: with no space on the ground, the outdoor unit had to be placed on the home's flat roof. The project was carried out in Zemst (Hofstade).
The installed solution
- ✅ Buderus WLW176i air-to-water heat pump (monobloc outdoor unit).
- ✅ Atlantic Explorer V5 thermodynamic water heater (270 L) for efficiently produced domestic hot water.
- ✅ Logalux P120.5 buffer tank (120 L): it ensures enough water volume so the heat pump always has sufficient flow to heat — preventing too-frequent start/stops (bad for the unit) — and can also store energy. We size it to the installation.
- ✅ Two Buderus pump groups: a mixed group for the underfloor heating (low temperature) and an unmixed group for the radiators — so each circuit runs at its ideal temperature.

The challenge: the outdoor unit on the roof
The real challenge of this project: lifting the outdoor unit onto the flat roof. To do it safely, we used an aerial work platform. The result: a unit cleanly placed on the roof, without cluttering the garden or the surroundings of the house.
The benefits for the customer
- ✅ Renewable, efficient heating thanks to the air-to-water heat pump.
- ✅ Efficient domestic hot water with the thermodynamic water heater.
- ✅ Each circuit optimised (underfloor + radiators) thanks to the two pump groups and the buffer tank.
- ✅ Space saving: the outdoor unit on the roof keeps the ground free and stays discreet.
- ✅ A safe, careful installation, even in a difficult configuration.
Subsidies: up to €6,000
In Flanders, an air-to-water heat pump qualifies for a subsidy of up to €6,000, depending on your income. Combined with the energy savings, the investment quickly pays off.
