Heating your domestic hot water with a traditional electric boiler is one of the most expensive ways to do it. In Herent, we installed an Atlantic Explorer 270 L thermodynamic water heater — a water heater that makes hot water with a small built-in heat pump, drawing most of its energy from the ambient air.
How a thermodynamic water heater works
Instead of heating water directly with an electrical resistance, the Explorer uses its heat pump to capture the calories in the surrounding air and transfer them to the water. For the same hot water, it consumes roughly three times less electricity than a conventional electric boiler. With 270 L of storage, it comfortably covers a family's needs.

The benefits
- ✅ Up to 3× less electricity for your hot water than a classic electric boiler.
- ✅ 270 litres of storage — plenty for a family.
- ✅ Subsidy up to €1,200 in Flanders, depending on your region and income.
- ✅ Simple to fit: it connects to the water inlet and a power socket — no outdoor unit needed.
- ✅ Quiet and autonomous: it runs on its own, day after day.
Subsidies: up to €1,200
In Flanders, a thermodynamic water heater qualifies for a subsidy of up to €1,200, depending on your region and income. Combined with the savings on your electricity bill, it pays for itself quickly.
