The Belgian federal government has announced that from 1 July 2025 the VAT on installation of gas and oil boilers will rise from 6% to 21% for homes older than 10 years. This increase means a significant additional cost: for example, on an average budget of €5,000, it comes to €750 extra.
Act now to avoid this price hike! It is better to plan ahead and arrange your installation before 1 July 2025 to benefit from the current reduced VAT rate and avoid the last-minute rush.
Which solution to choose?
We install gas and oil boilers as well as heat pumps. However, given current energy prices (gas, oil, electricity), we only recommend heat pumps if at least two of the following three conditions are met:
- Your home is well insulated: recent and high-performance insulation
- Your heating system is low-temperature compatible: underfloor heating, fan coils, etc.
- You have solar panels: to offset your electricity consumption and maximize self-consumption
If these conditions are not met, we also offer hybrid gas/oil boilers: a solution combining a boiler and a heat pump with a single control. The outdoor unit connects directly to the boiler, providing more flexibility depending on energy price evolution, at an installation cost comparable to a high-performance heat pump.
Good news: a reduced VAT rate for heat pumps!
VAT on heat pump installation for buildings less than 10 years old is temporarily only 6% instead of 21%, and that until 31 December 2029. For buildings older than 10 years, this rate was already 6% and remains unchanged. This is an opportunity to lower your energy bill and invest in a sustainable, high-performance solution.
